Five Practices Of A Fruitful Congregation

Radical Hospitality - Passionate Worship - Intentional Faith Development - Risk-Taking Mission and Service - Extravagant Generosity

These are the Five Practices of vital, fruitful congregations. These ideas aren’t secret or new, but they are the practices that can lead to excellence and growth in the life of our church. And they are the practices we will be focusing on for five consecutive weeks, beginning April 11 and ending May 9.

Just imagine what can happen if everyone in our congregation will spend five weeks—just thirty-five days—reading, praying, discussing, and focusing on these Five Practices. God can change individuals, entire families, and our whole church—thus changing the difference we can make in and beyond our surrounding community.

You are invited to participate in this exciting emphasis in a variety of ways:

* Sunday morning Sunday School @ 9 a.m.
* Sunday morning worship @ 10:30 a.m.
* At-home devotional/blog readings
* Discussion and Planning in Teams
* Board Meeting - Sunday, April 18 at 12:30 p.m.

April 11 -- Five Practices Of A Fruitful Congregation: Radical Hospitality
• “Whoever welcomes one such child in my name welcomes me.” (Matthew 18:5)
• “Just as you did it to one of the least of these who are members of my family, you did it to me.” (Matthew 25:40b)
• “Welcome one another, therefore, just as Christ has welcomed you, for the glory of God.” (Romans 15:7)

April 18 -- Five Practices Of A Fruitful Congregation: Passionate Worship
• “How lovely is your dwelling place, O LORD of hosts! / My soul longs, indeed it faints for the courts of the LORD; / my heart and my flesh sing for joy to the living God . . . . / For a day in your courts is better than a thousand elsewhere.” (Psalm 84:1-2, 10)
• “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your strength, and with all your mind; and your neighbor as yourself.” (Luke 10:27)

April 25 -- Five Practices Of A Fruitful Congregation: Intentional Faith Development
• “So if anyone is in Christ, there is a new creation: everything old has passed away; see, everything has become new!” (2 Corinthians 5:17)
• “They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and fellowship, to the breaking of bread and the prayers.” (Acts 2:42)

May 2 -- Five Practices Of A Fruitful Congregation: Risk-Taking Mission And Service
• “Truly I tell you, just as you did it to one of the least of these who are members of my family, you did it to me.” (Matthew 25:40b)
• “He has told you, O mortal, what is good; and what does the LORD require of you, but to do justice, and to love kindness; and to walk humbly with your God?” (Micah 6:8)

May 9 -- Five Practices Of A Fruitful Congregation: Extravagant Generosity
• “Honor the LORD with your substance and with the first fruits of all your produce.” (Proverbs 3:9)
• “For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son so that everyone who believes in him may not perish but may have eternal life.” (John 3:16)
• “You will be enriched in every way for your great generosity, which will produce thanksgiving to God through us.” (2 Corinthians 9:11)
• “. . . they would sell their possessions and goods and distribute the proceeds to all, as any had need.” (Acts 2:45)
