Ordination Prayer For Johanna “Jody” Heil
August 22, 2010

O God, Spirit of Wind, Spirit of Breath, Spirit of the Dove, Spirit of the Flame;

Blow across this woman of faith, as your Spirit blew across the face of the deep at creation’s dawning, setting in place a strong foundation as well as stirring up creativity’s endless possibilities.

Breath into Jody, as your Spirit breathed life into dust creating humanity, giving her new life where there was none, calling her to the sacred act of co-creating with you and caring for all that you have given us.

Come down upon this minister of the Gospel as your Spirit did when John baptized Jesus in the River Jordan and as you did when you baptized Jody, reminding her always that she is your beloved, cleansed, nourished, and redeemed, just as surely as she shall serve your beloved.

Dance lightly upon this new priest, pastor, and prophet as your Spirit did when the prophets Jeremiah, Elijah, and Joel and Miriam, Hannah, and Deborah claimed your heart-felt and yet teeth-rattling truth and as the disciples were propelled into becoming the Church of Christ on earth, sent to empower all peoples regardless of human distinctions and divisions.

Spirit of God, who is Wind, Breath, Dove, and Flame, ordain Johanna Lee Heil into your ministry this day, that she might love you with all her heart, soul, and strength and that she might love her neighbor as she loves herself. And may we, as the People of God, joyfully recognize, receive, and help sustain Jody in her ministry always.
