Welcome New Board Members!

On Sunday, May 6, 2007 the congregation elected new and returning Board members.  They are:

Diaconate: Allan Brown (1 year); Andrew Byrd, Jay Cheiky, Mary Hardison, Peter Jimoh, Colleen Munley, Michael Reed, Bev Wurm, Cheryl Yurcak (3 years); Jessica Bessner Bryant, Karrie Rhode-Dugger, Victoria Scheeff (Junior Diaconate)

Two Leadership Opportunities THIS WEEK

Two important leadership opportunities will be offered in the month of August.

NEW! Leadership Worship Service: On Thursday, August 23 at 7:00 p.m. Pastor Allen will host all members of the Church Board, and any others who wish to join us, for a special service of worship celebrating the gifts of leadership God has given us and offering those gifts back to God in grateful praise.  It will be held in the Chapel/Media Center.

Leadership Retreat: Then on Saturday, August 25, from 9:00 a.m. to 12 noon all members of the Board are urged to attend our annual Leadership Retreat.  This will be an important time to get to know other Board members, get calendars coordinated for the year, receive necessary resources, and prepare ourselves for the exciting challenges of the year ahead.  The retreat will be held in the church's parlor.

Board members will receive more information in the mail about both of these events.

 


Congregational Meeting Called For July 1 Following Worship


The Board of our church has called a special Congregational Meeting for Sunday, July 1 immediately following worship service. The purpose is to receive the By-Laws Revisions approved by the Board. Copies of the proposed changes are available at church on Sundays or can be mailed by calling Carole Sauer in the Church office.

Briefly, the proposed changes include:
- The creation of four Permanent Ministry Teams: Worship, Education, Evangelism, and Upkeep and the ability for the board to create temporary teams as the need arises;
- The establishment of the Mission Council as a settled group, but now with 5 "at-large" members and then one additional member from each Ministry Team (permanent as well as temporary);
- The establishment of the Personnel Department with the Senior Pastor as Head of Staff (excluding interim and associate ministers), and with provisions for appeals;
- A process to remove members of the Diaconate from the active roster if they are unable or unwilling to fulfill their duties.

For a complete list of the changes, please refer to a copy of the Proposed By-Laws changes and speak to any member of the Board present at the meeting.
